Description

The railway poster by Claude Buckle shows the Spa Town of Buxton which has been a popular holiday resort for centuries. Based at the heart of the Peak District in the county of Derbyshire. The picture depicts the University Dome, The Crescent and Opera House. Approximate date of original painting 1930.

The town of Buxton used to be the second Spar town in the UK and like Bath boasts a hot spring and underground water that fell to earth two thousand years ago. In 2020 the crescent will be opened as a 5 star spar hotel giving the town a must needed lift.

The town is currently connected by rail to Manchester but also boasts many disused railway lines which are now long distance walks.
